Housing Forecast Looks Bright for San Diego County

June 22, 2005 - Escondido, CA: Housing in San Diego County will continue to thrive economically, according to Alan Gin, an economist at the University of San Diego . His statement comes as a response to the new UCLA Anderson Forecast that predicts housing prices are reaching a peak and pose a potential housing slump throughout the country. Gin claims that San Diego County is an exception.

“Housing is a localized product, and while you can say that the housing market overall in the U.S. has been strong, I think it’d be more appropriate to look at it on a market-by-market basis,” Gin said.

The housing supply is more limited in San Diego County than nationwide because much of the land suitable for building homes has been placed off-limits for development. Gin says this constraint on supply in San Diego County will continue to drive prices up.
